The bowls are made much like a barrel, 12 staves glued together to make a ring. Next a base is glued on followed by a scrap block on the base. A face plate is screwed on the block, and it is ready to turn.  The staves are matched for grain, that gives it the matching patterns.  After turning the bottoms are sanded, signed, dated and then finished with several coats of oil. The last coat is a linseed oil mixed with beeswax.

Your bowl has been finished with a series of oils.  The last oil is a combination of polymerized linseed oil and beeswax, a non-toxic, kitchen approved product.

3 Basic Shapes:

  • Concave

  • Convex

  • Tapered

Sizes:

  • 2 1/2 x 6 1/2

  • 4 x 8

  • 5 x 10

Woods: Black Walnut, Cherry, Maple, Curly Maple, Bamboo (a grass) and some exotics.

A new twist are the laminated staves, for example a piece of 3/4 Walnut, 1/8 Maple and a 3/8 piece of Cherry. These make some very interesting patterns depending on shape.
